FMK Architects

Intern Architect: April 2012 - December 2013

At FMK I had the opportunity to learn and become proficient in the use of Revit Architecture for the completion of schematic design, construction documents and renderings.  I also developed my engineering coordination and construction administration skills, working closely with consultants and contractors throughout all phases of the projects.

In the nearly two years at FMK, the majority of projects I worked on were medical office up-fits for Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS).  An understanding of the client and end-user needs was critical to the design process.  In the Fall of 2012 the firm participated in CHS's Lean 3P design and process charette.  For one week, doctors, nurses, administrative staff and executives were brought together with architects, designers, and consultants to work through the processes of running a medical office in order to arrive at a streamlined and efficient design approach for two separate buildings, each with unique circulation patterns and housing several different types of practices.  Having been heavily involved in the design, detailing and construction administration of a medical office building in South Carolina, I was then able to transfer lessons learned to another medical office project which went out to bid four months later.

During my time at FMK I completed the remaining portions of the Intern Development Program and Architect Registration Exams (September 2013 and November 2013, respectively), enabling me to receive my professional license in January 2014.
