In this position, I furthered my construction detailing skills while developing a strong understanding of county judicial facilities, their processes, and their regulations. In addition to generic building codes and accessibility guidelines, a thorough understanding of the following aspects was necessary for completion of these projects:
- The NC Jail Code
- Separation of User Groups
- Booking Processes
- Evidence Storage and Processing
- Inmate Rights
- Security Electronics and Video Visitation Systems
- High-level security construction materials and methods.
- Acoustic separation for confidentiality as well as in courtrooms.
- Courtroom security, layout and procedures.

Moore County Jail and Public Safety Building
Location: Carthage, NC
Scope: 147,000 sq ft
Completed 2013
This project contains a 192 bed detention housing facility, as well as support spaces for the jail - infirmary, laundry and food preparation facilities. The Public Safety portion of the building houses several divisions of offices, as well as inmate and evidence processing, and a video visitation facility.
Columbus County Court Annex
Location: Whiteville, NC
Scope: 42,230 sf
Status: Under Construction
The Columbus County Court Annex provides much-needed space for the county to expand its judicial operations. The building has three courtrooms with a multipurpose room that can serve as a future courtroom. In addition to these spaces are facilities for inmate holding and administrative space for the county clerk's office and judges. Physical separation of the public, the inmates and Judicial Officials was very important, as was sonic isolation of the courtrooms, offices, and conference rooms.
Hertford County Courthouse and Government Center
Location: Winton, NC
Scope: 45,295 Courthouse / 10,896 Govt. Center
Status: Under Construction
The Hertford County Courthouse contains three courtrooms as well as a government center with offices for Judicial Officials and the District Attorneys.
